Simon Klenell

Simon Klenell, born 1985, describes himself as both a designer and a craftsman. His way of working is driven by the material, and he works almost exclusively with glass. It’s also in the glass itself that he finds his greatest inspiration and curiosity. A big part of Simon’s work process includes drawing and designing, but the fact that he also blows and grinds glass is an important part of his professional identity and something he considers his biggest asset in his design work.

Curiosity and finding the potential of glass are major driving forces in Simon's work. He’s driven by learning more about how he can use the history of glass, manufacturing techniques and the physical properties of the material to explore its potential and what stories he can convey with it.

Simon has worked with Kosta Boda since 2009. He has a background of studying at both the National School of Glass and the University of Arts, Crafts and Design, where he studied ceramics and glass. Among other things, he’s been awarded the Ulrica Hydman Vallien scholarship, and work scholarships from the state's arts council several times. Among the products that Klenell has designed are objects, lamps, serving dishes and tables for companies such as Fogia, Sneakers 'n Stuff and Alexander Sjögren.
