Collection: Janus

Bertil Vallien began spending time with these sand-casted heads in the mid-90s. One half is awake and one asleep, if you like. In mythology, Janus was the god responsible for dawn and dusk. For Bertil, who has always tried to capture light in his glass, this dual nature has become a character that he revisits time and again, searching for a conversation. The powerful contrast between raw and cut glass gives the sculpture its special magic.
